What’s on: workshops and appearances

Dear friends,

I run an online cookery classes, which now has 50+ cookery videos and recorded Zoom workshops, including two on fermentation. To sign up, please go to my The Food That Makes Us: Online Cookery School

The Zoom Classes (available through my Patreon subscription £35 for live, and £10 or £2 for the recording) will be held on:

The Writing Club

Tuesday June 18th, 19:30 UK time

I will be speaking to Karla Zazueta, whose debut cookbook Norteña has just recently come out.  We’ve had lots of authors who have published multiple books, so I thought it would be illuminating to speak to someone who is at the start of their published writing journey and ask them what it’s like to be in the thick of it now with the book promotion.

Karla has been writing for years for her blog Mexican Food Memories and she has been teaching too (Joe and I did a date night cooking class with Karla during the pandemic when she taught us how to make the most beautiful North Mexican food).

Her debut cookbook Norteña is beautiful and interesting and absolutely delicious. Joe shot the book, so I was lucky to try pretty much every one of the dishes in the book.

Cookery School

Tuesday June 25th, 19:30 UK time

I will be joined by co-founder and kefir queen, Sam of Ki Kefir, a traditional kefir company based in East Sussex, where they have been making real kefir using traditional practises for over 6 years.  This workshop will be educational and interactive.  Sam will teach us how to ferment milk to create a probiotic-rich beverage and also how to incorporate different flavours.   I will also talk about how I use kefir in my own cooking and share some recipes. Tickets available here.

In person workshops at my home in East London

These are a part workshop and part feast, where I serve you a beautiful lunch or dinner, with lots of ferments and salads.  Organic wine and beer and homemade kvas will be on offer too. You will receive a pack of recipes and will also be able to take some food home. I provide Kilner jars for all the ferments, so you will be going home with the ferments that you’ve made and extra little bits.  For the dumplings, we always advise to bring a container as there is always plenty left over.

The classes cost £120 plus £24 VAT. To book, please email Maria on cookwith@oliahercules.com.

Saturday June 22nd, 10:30 am – 2.30 pm (last one before the summer)

Ukrainian Dumplings and Ukrainian Ferments

We will make two shapes of Ukrainian dumplings and some Ukrainian style ferments.  The workshop will finish with a dumpling, salad and ferment feast with wine. Most dietaries apart from gluten intolerance can be catered for. This class is vegan-friendly.  Kilner jars are provided.
